Welcome to 6th Grade Band
Starting in the 6th grade, the beginning band meets daily in ‘like’ instrument classes to focus on playing fundamentals and develop musicians to be ready to perform at a high level by the second year. Students are grouped by instrument family — brass, woodwind, and percussion — to receive focused instruction from our expert directors.

Ready, Set, Rent!
Most beginning band students rent their instruments through approved vendors. Rental programs typically include maintenance and insurance. Use the links below for your instrument:

Parent Information
New band parents are invited to attend our annual parent meeting at the beginning of the school year. Topics covered include the band schedule, practice expectations, concert dates, and how to support your child’s musical journey. Meeting dates will be announced via email and posted on our calendar.
Practice Expectations
Consistent practice is the key to success in band. Beginning band students are expected to practice 30 minutes, 4 times a week. Quality practice includes:
Warming up with long tones and flexibility exercises
Practicing scales for technique
Working through assigned method book pages
Practicing challenging passages slowly before speeding up
Taking breaks when needed — rest is an important part of effective practice

No prior experience is needed! Beginning band is designed for students who are brand new to their instrument.

When are rehearsals and concerts?
Band meets daily during the school day. Concert dates are posted on our Calendar page. Beginning band typically has 2–3 concerts per year.
